Uninstalling the sedex-Client

Why it is important to uninstall unused sedex-ClientsπŸ”—

It is extremely important to delete sedex-Client installations immediately as soon as they are no longer in use for the following reasons:

  • Operational Issues: A sedex participant must never run two sedex-Clients at the same time. If old installations are not deleted, there is an increased risk that they will be accidentally put back into operation at a later date.

  • Security Issues: An old installation also contains, among other things, the sensitive private key for the sedex subscriber certificate. If such secret credentials are not deleted, there is an increased risk that they will fall into the wrong hands.

Preparatory checksπŸ”—

Before you delete any data from a sedex installation, you must ensure that you no longer need this data.

  • Are there any unprocessed sedex messages or receipts in the classic file system interface (inbox, outbox, receipts)?

  • Are there any unprocessed sedex messages in a virtual inbox of the Messaging REST API?

  • An old installation of a participant should only be deleted if the new installation is proven to work correctly.

Remove the sedex-Client softwareπŸ”—

  1. Stop and remove the service/daemon of the sedex-Client

If you are running the sedex-Client as an operating system service (or daemon), then you have to stop this service/daemon and remove it.
For details see Automatic start (installation as a service/daemon).

  2. Delete data folders external to the sedex-Client installation directory

By default, a sedex-Client installation directory also contains all data (messaging interface, log files, monitoring file, etc.). However, it is possible to store some or all data outside the sedex-Client installation directory. If this is the case in your installation, you should check and, if necessary, delete this external data.

If you are unsure, check whether external directories are referenced in the sedex-Client configuration.

  3. Delete the sedex-Client installation directory

You can now physically delete the sedex-Client installation directory.

Reflect the uninstallation in your IT environmentπŸ”—

It is possible that there are still other systems in your IT landscape that reference the uninstalled sedex-Client. Do not forget to adjust these.

  • Is the uninstalled sedex-Client still registered in your IT monitoring system?

  • Is there still a business application that uses the sedex-Client interfaces?

    • Messaging folders (inbox, outbox, receipts)
    • Messaging REST API
    • Webservice Proxy
  • Is the uninstalled sedex-Client still listed in an inventory or internal documentation?
