Phase 1: Overview of Initial Configuration

For a new sedex Client container installation, an Initial Configuration must be performed once at the beginning. On this page you get an overview of the different methods and identify which one is the right one for you.

During "Phase 1, Initial Configuration", the external permanent storage is set up and a specific initial configuration is defined.

Phase 1: Initial Configuration

Determine your initialization type

There are four different ways to perform the Initial Configuration. Depending on your answers to the two questions below, you can determine which initialization type you need to execute.

Question 1: Manual or scripted Initial Configuration process?

The "Initial Configuration" can be executed in the following ways:

  1. Manually - A manually executed process
You create the initial configuration file with the necessary parameters with a text editor and optionally use an existing keystore file (P12).
Because this can be done easily and quickly, it is the recommended approach, especially for new users.

  2. Scripted - Partially automated using an executable script
You execute a utility script contained in the sedex Client container. The script takes the required parameters from variables and automatically creates the initial configuration file.
If you are an experienced user and need to commission several sedex Clients in a reproducible way, the scripted variant may suit you.

Question 2: Existing certificate or Certificate Request ID (CRID) with One-time Password (OTP)?

Regardless of whether you perform the "Initial Configuration" manually or scripted, the configuration parameters differ depending on whether you are migrating an existing sedex installation (your sedex participant already has a sedex certificate) or you are starting a new installation (you only have temporary credentials called CRID and OTP for obtaining a new sedex certificate later on):

a) Migration of an existing installation: With sedex certificate
If a container or non-container sedex Client installation has already been running your sedex participant, the sedex participant will already have a certificate in a keystore (P12 file) and a password for the keystore.

b) Starting with a new installation: With CRID and OTP
If no sedex Client installation has been running for your sedex participant, you should have received temporary credentials which entitle you to automatically obtain a new sedex participant certificate. These consist of a "Certificate Request Identifier (CRID)" and a corresponding "One-Time Password (OTP)".

b) With CRID and OTP 1b) Manually with CRID and OTP 2b) Scripted with CRID and OTP
